01 — Approach
A home that feels
like exhaling
Retreat spaces operate on different principles than residences. They're designed not for daily routine but for arrival, for the specific moment when someone steps out of their ordinary life and into a different rhythm.
That requires a different kind of listening. We study not just the program but the guest journey: how the approach feels, what the first view communicates, whether the transition from entry to gathering to private rest creates a sense of psychological arrival.
Material choices carry weight in retreat spaces. A wood species, a plaster finish, a tile color aren't just aesthetic — they're somatic. They register in the body. We select materials not just for their beauty but for how they make people feel held, safe, attended to.
